Sadie Robertson, of Duck Dynasty fame, recently revealed on her blog that she has suffered with an eating disorder for the last couple of years. In a nutshell, she became self-conscious about her appearance and it spiraled downward from there.91.3 KGLY East Texas Christian Radio What Are You Hiding Heard On Air Blog Body Image

Sadie writes, “It was like I was looking in a magic mirror, you know, those ones that distort the image? Except it was my mind changing what I saw. My thoughts instantly went to the imperfections. The blemishes. The flaws. At least five times a day, I would wrap my hands around my thighs, making sure they hadn’t grown beyond what I could reach. I knew each little calorie that was in every bite of food I took. I talked about food all of the time.”

That’s such a shocking admission coming from someone who seems to have it all. Sadie has a loving family, fame, wealth, ministry opportunities all across the country, yet she has carried this deep, dark secret with her and kept it hidden behind the bright smile and encouraging words. It was locked away from everyone…even her mother! How is that even possible?

The truth of the matter is the enemy of every Christian, Satan, doesn’t care about fame, or the lack thereof. He wants to steal, kill, and destroy…period! If he can make us ashamed or afraid enough to keep something a secret, he increases his chances of destroying us. So, what are you hiding?

Are you going through something that you want to overcome but find it hard to open the door to reveal it? Do you feel like you are the only one struggling with that particular issue? You might just be surprised how many people around you are going through a secret struggle but won’t say anything because they also feel like they are alone.

Whether you are struggling with a lack of self-worth, an eating disorder, or anything that makes you feel ashamed and keeps you from seeing yourself as God’s beautiful creation, don’t try to fight alone in silence. Sadie says, “Without help or advice from others, we can find ourselves in an uncomfortable pit of shame, feeling extreme confusion in our identity – and often times, it begins to produce a heavy sense of the fear of man.”

With God’s help and with the accountability that comes from opening up, Sadie is back on track and living in a new freedom that only God can give. You can, too! Ask God to help you, and don’t keep things hidden. If you would like to read Sadie’s blog post, click here.
