I haven’t been drinking much coffee at the office lately. In fact, I’ve been wasting coffee, pouring it and adding creamer to try and tame the strength down a bit. I’d take a sip or two, then let it get cold and toss it out.

The coffee at the office had been getting stronger and stronger, and I didn’t really want to bring it up. “I can live with it” I said to myself, or “I’ll just drink tea” was another one I’d say as I poured my coffee down the sink.

When it came to the attention of my friend and co-worker Margie, she instantly had the solution. “We’ll make two pots,” she said. “One light and one dark.”

What a great idea! The next morning when I got to work, there were signs on both coffee pots. Margie had set up the coffee makers, one strong and one not-so-strong, just for me. All I had to do was push start and my perfect coffee began to brew.

Now, to Margie, this may have been a 2-minute thing that was no big deal, but to me, her thoughtfulness was off the charts. Her kindness made my day, and honestly, I enjoyed that coffee more than I had in a long time.

It really made me think about how one small act can mean so much to someone. A smile. A phone call. A pot of coffee.

Why is it so important to be kind?

Because of who God is and what He has done for us.

We should “follow God’s example…and walk in the way of love.”
