I remember coloring Easter Eggs as a child. As a mother of two little girls, we decorated eggs every year in all kinds of bright and pastel colors. But the colored eggs are more than just a family craft.

In its earliest tradition, the eggs were colored bright red to represent the blood of Christ on the cross that covers our sins. And the eggs which are also known for rebirth represented the empty tomb.

This Easter, as you fill the little plastic eggs, or color your own hard-boiled version, remember what they represent: Jesus’ resurrection and our promise of life everlasting.

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.” — John 3:16
