Do Something – Donate Sports Equipment

Did you know that some parents won’t sign their kids up for youth sports leagues because they know they can’t cover the cost of the equipment their kids will need to have in order to join the team? So, here’s a “Do Something” idea: Next time you or your child outgrows an old pair of cleats or bats, gloves, helmets, equipment bags, donate them! If you know of someone in need, offer them your equipment for free.

My daughter, Kristin, has been fortunate to have had coaches and players donate equipment to her throughout her 10 years of playing softball, as well as offer rides to tournaments when I wouldn’t take her. If it weren’t for their generosity, she would have had to quit. She’s very talented and is now playing in college on an athletic scholarship. We’re so grateful for their help in getting her there!

The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation also suggests contacting local leagues and during the off-season set up an used-equipment drive among all the teams in the league. Before the next season starts, hold a kick-off event where families in need can come and pick up the used equipment for free.

Be a blessing, so a kid can develop his or her talent and shine!
